Yesterday I was reading the new Burning Crusade changes for warriors. I am a bit confused. It would seem to be that Blizz is up to something and they aren't exactly letting on as to what it is.
First off is the tactical mastery thing. TM is one of the most useful talents a warrior can have. I don't do much stance swapping, and I still have it. All viable PvP builds need it. Its that damned important.
Currently it sits Tier 2 of the Arms tree. Come time for the Xpac it will be swapped for an ability in protection and moved to tier one.
Seriously, what the hell? Why on earth would they put a talent in a tree that hardly needs it? ITS THE DRUGS I TELL YOU!!
The warriors have been screaming at the top of their lungs about this for weeks now and being totally ignored. Then the Druid talents get announced, at the same time they do some more updates. Nope, TM has not been changed. But guess what has been changed. Stuff no one was complaining about, With the exception of "Vitality" more on that later.
Not to say that the changes they made were bad. A 50% chance to resist a disarm is pretty cool. Combining Axe and Polearm spec into "Poleaxe Spec" was not a bad idea. Changing Defiance to a 3 point talent is cool as well.
Now for "Vitality", something Warriors have wanted for a long long long time. In short it means more hit points. Cool, other classes get this talent, why not the warriors?
I see this new talent and thing "SWEET!" so I start playing around with the new builds and I discover that its a 5 point talent for +5% more hit points. Now thats pretty weak, but wait...It gets better. This will be a Tier 9 Talent. One that is VERY deep in the protection tree. Now if other classes with similar talents got this in a similar way, I'd be cool with it. If you can see that I'm writing about it here you know thats not the case.
Rogues - "Vitality" 2 point talent in Tier 7. Rewards 4% Stamina at 2/2 (They get 2% per point)
Hunters - "Survivalist" 5 point talent in Tier 3. Rewards 10% Stamina when maxed out (They get 2% per point)
Druids - "Heart of the Wild" 5 Point Talent in Tier 6. When Maxed out it gives 20% more Stamina in bear form (They get 4% per point)
Warlocks - "Demonic Embrace" 5 point talent in Tier 1. When maxed out it gives 15% Stamina (They get 3% per point)
So the warriors complained about it. The general opinion was "Make it so that its 2/4/6/8/10% instead of 1/2/3/4/5% and its a cool talent"
So Blizz went and "fixed" it.
Now its still 5% Stamina. But we got 2/4/6/8/10% Strength on top of it. Huh?
Nobody asked for extra strength, but we got it. So now we got a semi-cool talent deep in the protection tree that is still lackluster when compared to similar talents of other classes.
DRUGS!! ITS THE DRUGS I SAY!!
The more I write the more confused I get. I understand Blizzards "Tough Choices" line, but seriously, what the hell are they on?
And that BS about how "Loosing all rage is a core Game Mechanic" is complete shit.
"RAWR!!!! I'M SO ANGRY RIGHT NOW!!!" *stands a little bit differently* "Ok, I'm over it"
I'm going to propose a compromise on the TM deal. Its should appeal to both sides of the issue.
Step one: Move TM to somewhere in the middle of the Arms tree. Tier 5ish would be good.
Step two: Change it to "Improved Tactical Mastery" giving you 2/4/6/8/10 more rage when swapping stances.
Step Three: Make the Talent Trainable at about level 30. However, the trainable ability will only provide 15 Rage on a stance swap.
I would even go for 10 points of rage trainable, then 3/6/9/12/15 with talents.
Blizz would be happy: You still loose most rage on a stance swap and only have the rage for one, maybe two abilities after that. Choosing TM would still consume points that could be used otherwise.
Warriors will be happy: TM is trainable and can be vastly improved with talents. You wont "need" it for a PvP build, but it couldn't hurt and gives you that option of taking it or not.
Come on Blizz, we care about you. Put the pipe down. Pretty Please?
