Cause I's knows stuffs abouts warrior...s... kinda
Seeing as how we have a warrior section and seeing as how I kinda know a tad about being a warrior n all I figured i'de type up what I know/have learned up to this point.
Consider this my 'dump' of know-how in reguards to uber warrior-ness.
I'm gonna divide this up into sections to make it easier.
1. Stances
So what makes us cool you say? well stances DUH!
We have 3(I so wish we had 4)
Battle
Standard every day stance, regular offensive abilites, and pretty much what every arms spec warrior stays in.
Defensive
Tanking stance, damage reduction, enhanced tanking abilities, not to mention taunt and sunder can only be used in this stance.
Beserker
Must kill... yeah beserker = crazy as the name implies.
You get a +crit percent increase at the expense of taking much more damage.
A fury warriors dream come true, with the popular and crazy whirlwind only being able to be used in zerker stance.
2. Gear gear and more gear!
We start off wearing mail and at 40 we can start wearing plate.
Letsee where to begin, well first off warriors can wear ANY type of armor, unless the item happens to have a class restriction.
Their are stats useful to us and stats not so useful to us, heres what they do for... us lol:
Strength:
Increases your total attack power. 1 str = 2 ap, thus a weapon with 100 str would grant you a passive 200 attack power.
Increases the amount of damage that can be blocked with your shield. Meaning say a boss does 4000 standard melee damage, a certain amount of that is 'blocked' by your shield. (doesn't hurt you) Yes thats right you need a shield to block damage! crazy I know!
Agility
Increases your chance to dodge an attack. Woo fancy foot work FTW!
Also increases your critical strike chance with melee and ranged weapons. Me warrior me smash rawr. SO a 2 hander with say +30 agi would be sweeeet, you'de be dodging and critting like some kinda dodging critting awesome thing. Yeah i'm tired.
Stamina
1 point of stamina = 24 points of health. I think... hmm better check that later. Say I had ooh 200 stamina i'de have 4800 health. That is if its 24 &%#$ I hate this math @*&^%.
Intellect:
Useless uttely freaking useless, does NOTHING for us offensively or defensively. Might have something to do with the fact we dont have mana... but then maybe my incredibly low int has been the reason for lack of said mana all along! GASP! O.o lol
Oh yeah apparently we lvl weapon skills fatser with higher intellect, pfft i've had int before DID nothing.
Spirit:
Ah good old health regen, we get alot of this stuff on dungeon gear like valor, good for questing now and then when your low on food/bandages but besides that meh dont bother 'looking' for it. Theoretically though if their isn't a health regen cap you could have like a million spirit and be regening your total health in seconds. Bah.
DEFENSE!:
Hmm I do like a bit of defense yes-sir-ee but generally just for tanking seeing as how it helps us avoid getting critted on and does something or other... hmm yeah. +def = tank stat
3. Tanking
Sigh... yes no matter what spec we are we STILL have to tank, honestly cant wait for the hybrids to get in on this more myself.
Anyway tanking 101 by Az:
Taunt:
Taunt is YOUR FRIEND, it saves your priests butt every time and is pretty much the very essence of threat itself.
Theirs some kinda complicated math behind it but basically taunt equals the warriors threat for a matter of seconds to that of the highest generated by a fellow player. Giving you time to generate more threat afterwards with your snazy threat generating abilities.
If you happen to be doing the old 'warrior runs in like idiot to go taunt boss' then consider it basically a + ontop of your initial first attack. Doesn't however mean you've generated much if any threat which is why the dps needs to WAIT for you to do so.
Sunder:
I swear I have had every single person/class/thing tell me I need to sunder when tanking, even what 8 MONTHS after i hit 60 and i've BEEN sundering the ENTIRE TIME lol!.
Honestly if you dont know about sunder by then you really really shouldn't be playing a warrior.
Heres how it works:
Sunder reduces armor of the target, can be applied 5 times and with each application generates a certain amount of threat.
Which is why when your tanking you gotta get 5 up asap.
A well geared warrior is usually fine at 3, but really i've seen wrath/dreadnaught sporting tanks put up 3 and some +damage caster STILL pulls agro.
IMPORTAN FACT ABOUT SUNDER!!!!!!:
It is not permenent, you MUST re apply it in order for the dang things to stay on the target.
Now, high threat abilities are as follows:
Heroic Strike - Standard threat attack, uses a tad to much rage to be perfect, nothing wrong with spamming it but dont go nuts.
Shield Bash - Niftyness, decent threat AND if you spec right can have a 100% chance to silence your target for a couple of seconds, also interupts all spells so good for fights where a boss' heal needs to NOT go off.
Mocking Blow - Taunt backup, only ever use when you've got plenty of rage and taunt is on cooldown, its battle stance only so generally only used by dps warriors that need to help out for a few secs or want to pull agro like a noob and see if they live, its all good.
Revenge- ZOMG THREAT UBERNESS, this is THE greatest thing known to warrior tanks. Really sucks you have to 'block' an attack before you can use it, its generates very high threat and is only outmached by a hunters aimed shot which I believe is essentially a ranged taunt anyway. Hit this as much as possible!
Devestate(spec)
Now this is a new talent from the updated tree, man it ROCKs hard. It renews the sunder timer, thats right no longer must you spam sunder after 5 are up, just hit this baby and your gold.
Not to mention does decent damage too and looks cool going off on big targets.
Shield Slam(spec)
A very high threat attack with crazy damage for a 'shield only' attack. Kura's right this thing crits like mad and is kick-ass for heavy prot spec warriors.
4. Damage Per Second
Warriors do damage? NO WAY!
Thats right a properly geared dps warrior(arms/fury or arms-fury) can actually out dps a rogue!
Crazy awsomeness I hope to achieve some day.
Unfortunately i've all but forgotten about warrior dps, i'm 're-learning' how it all goes at this very point in time.
Essentially a dps warriors 2 best friends are Strength and Agility.
Their are 3 kinds of dps warriors.
Arms spec:
2 Hander user/pvp abuser
Yes arms is practically built up from the ground to be 'the' ant-player spec. We get all kinds of stun resist and +rage bonus' and +damage bonus'. A good arms build needs a good arms weapon though. Something big n slow that hits like a freight train carrying a thousand tonnes of solid steel. Zin-Rok from ZG being a good example.
Fury spec:
Did someone say duel-wield?
Yes the only time where a warrior using a dagger = cool.
Designed for anti-pve generally speaking but still JUST as nice as an arms build for pvp.
This is where good dps warriors are seperated from bad dps warriors. Many many nice things in this build that will make you generate threat like a bad ass and yes possibly wipe a raid at the same time! so awsome. ^.^
Unfortunately its duel-wield or /kick because fury is desinged for warriors who are hitting fast and cosistently.
Widely said to be currently 'nerfed' I know damn well a good fury build even now with the right gear can be a thing of beauty.
Heaven and Earths main tank Shepila went fury post guild moving and man, can that guy embarrass rogues or what.
Honest to god he was number 1 on the damage metres for 80% of an mc run. Kinda helps that he had black wing lair dps plate and 2 gm swords though lol.
Works best the same as a good rogue, fast main hand, slow off hand.
Arms/Fury hybrid spec:
A good mixture of both above specs. For people who want certain things to be happy n stuff, honestly I wouldn't advise it since your gear needs to be verrrrry specific if you wanna do any kinda decent damage.
Well thats it for me and this post, its 1am and I need to get up early, hope you 'non warrior' people have learned something, especially if your planning to or have made a warrior.
