Over the past couple of weeks I have been mulling over how best to do looting in AQ20. My two "F"s are "Fun " and "Fair" for this sort of thing, and finding a balance between the two has been quite the frustration.
Here is what I am talking about: The Idols and Scarabs can be used for two things. Selling them on the AH and building your class set. You can not turn them in like the coins and bijou's. So lets say we treat them like the coins and bijou's, how fair is it to the people who want to actually use them for their 3 piece set if people roll on them just to sell them later? The items sets on DPS classes will benefit the raid group as a whole where selling the items won on an AQ night only benefits the person who won them.
So the obvious solution to this is to ML the whole damed instance and pass out the scarabs/idols to people who will use them. Right?
Alright then, lets pretend for a moment that this is what we do. The item sets are built quickly and our raid DPS skyrockets. But what of the people who chose not to build their set right away? They will get shafted as far as loot goes most of the time. Thats frustrating and not at all fun. really annoying watching people around you get new gear and your sitting around in the same stuff you have been wearing the past 6 months.
So the obvious solution to this problem is to treat the scarabs and idols like the coins and bijous...uh oh, we seem to be in a paradox here.
Next up is the books. We all need them...all of the wish lists so far except for one or two have at least one book on them. I also hear that come expansion the books are going to be worthless. All abilities you can learn in the books are going to be trainable.
So then, how to we take care of this? Beautiqea had suggested the idea of the books being open roll for people with veteran status. I am ok with this idea, opens up the loot possibilities for committed raiders. It would also alleviate the the issues of the idols/scarabs to some degree.
It was also suggested that we have people list if they are interested in the three part set on their wish list. That would give them priority to the idols and scarabs, but maybe lesser priority on other things.
Basically I want to give you all a little insight into whats going on and whats going to be going on with AQ20 when we start hitting it a little harder.
If you have any bright ideas on the subject, please post them here.
